SOUTHERN STEAM 1967
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the end of Southern Steam train operation which occurred on July 9th 1967 we have created this special gallery where we will be placing hundreds of images dating from that fateful year. It is well known that Merchant Navy Class No 35030 ELDER DEMPSTER LINES worked the very last passenger train, the 14.07 Weymouth to Waterloo on that fateful summer day, but the last steam locomotive left standing was the unique Standard 3MT Class No 77014 which was employed on the 20.50 Bournemouth to Weymouth van train.
We are very grateful to the photographers whose images appear in this gallery. All photos can be purchased or downloaded in the usual way. Publishers and authors you can download a high-res image after pre-payment or please contact us for other arrangements. If you have high-quality original unpublished images of the end of Southern Steam which you would like displayed here, please contact us
