J67 Class- 8511 St Margaret's mpd
Holden J67 Class 0-6-0T No 8511 (as renumbered in 1946 and later Br No 68511) semi-permanently coupled to a tender at St Margaret's mpd, Edinburgh, (known locally as 'smokey brae'). The loco worked the Lauder Light Railway which ran from Fountainhall Junction (off the Waverley Route) and had been transferred from the Great Eastern section because of it's light axle loading. The former NBR tender was used to 'spread the load', as if filled up the the locomotive's tanks made the engine axle-load too heavy for the branch line's lightweight track. c.1948
