Welcome to ANISTR.COM, book publisher and  online archive of historic and modern UK railway photos.  Our images are available as instant downloads for editorial and commercial uses by authors and publishers and  private collectors. We also sell traditional photos in a variety of sizes, printed for us by Britain's best pro lab, as established by our own tests.

UPDATE ABOUT OUR NEW WEBSITE

We are putting our immense reserve collection of images on to the Internet at our new website, click RAILWAY IMAGESto visit. We are  posting view-ready images which are not necessarily fully restored (some require some further cleaning to remove dust spots etc) but which can be viewed and ordered. If needed we will of course complete their restoration before your order is dispatched. We have started by adding over three hundred images of British Railways Southern Region tank engines in the 30000 series, and are now working to upload our Isle of Wight railways collection. Visit RAILWAY IMAGES and see the latest galleries being added!

LATEST NEWS : BOOK SELLING FAST!

The Railway Photography of Bernard Brown by John H. Bird is a wonderful nostalgic trip into the late 1950s showcasing the wonderful photographs of the then young Bernard, who is now a sprightly octogenarian, still retaining his love for railways and steam in particular. This glossy hard back book printed on heavy weight glossy paper has been selling well and received many favourable comments including a large feature in the Derby Evening Telegraph.

We have a easy to use price generator for just about any possible use of our images when you click on our BUY REPRO RIGHTS button beside any large image.

Our rates are very competitive and start at just a few pounds for very small scale projects which are so typical of a niche activity like transport publishing.
If you wish to obtain repro rights with payment on publication please use the 'REQUEST QUOTATION' and we will advise our best price although it will always be cheaper to buy repro rights in advance.
We endeavour to provide Publishers with a 24 hours or less quotation from the time of contact. High-resolution images are of course available instantly using the BUY REPRO RIGHTS button.

SEARCHING IS AS EASY AS G**GLE!

Why not browse through our images which are conveniently grouped in folders by era and region. If you have specific requirements try our comprehensive SEARCH facility. We have taken a lot of trouble to make all our images search friendly by extensive keywording.
Our Search Engine is very sophisticated and looks through all the captions on the site as well as all the keywords. It will accept names of locations (e.g. Swindon), dates in DDMMYYY format (e.g. 09071967), decades without apostrophe (e.g. 1950s), numbers (e.g. 45110), codes (e.g. A4), counties e.g. Lancashire and countries (e.g. Wales)
For further guidance go to SEARCH. 'Boolean' searching is also a feature, so more specific searches can be undertaken by inputting phrases or combinations of Letters, Numbers etc.

Our website is designed so that unlike some other rail image websites our images normally display as correct format thumbnails, with titles underneath and arranged in numerical order within each Gallery and in Search results.

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS and LINKS

We thanks those who have contributed information to assist with the captioning of images, particularly members of the Southern Email Group (including Michael Ball, Peter Gibbons, Daniel Holden-Storey,Chris Knowles-Thomas, Roger Merry-Price, Peter Smart, Clive Standen, Peter Russell, Nigel Wright) and to many others including Russell Burridge, John Freear, Tony Saville and Vic Smith.

The following websites have been invaluable for researching information about the subjects in the various images:
BR Database An amazing piece of work with extensive information about much of Britain's railway motive power
What Happened to Steam the enormous project undertaken by the late Peter Hands who despite some original inaccuracies is now an outstanding analysis.
Finally, if you would like to wallow in beautifully crafted nostalgia for the days of steam, there can be no better place than here where the sadly passed David Hey has compiled an amazing collection of material interspersed with his own very particular viewpoints! RIP.
